ROYAL CINEMA LIMERICK
CLIENT: LIMERICK CITY VEC
A Feasibility study for the conversion of the former Theatre Royal in Limerick.
The Athenaeum Building and Hall (Theatre) is listed as a protected structure. Constructed to the designs of John Fogarty and purchased in 1854 by the Limerick Athenaeum Society who built the Athenaeum Hall (to the rear) as a public lecture theatre. It then went on to become a performing arts theatre, commonly known as the Royal, which closed in 1998.
The Feasibility study to convert the buildings into a digital cinema proposed the provision of three auditoriums, including a multipurpose lecture and performance space, a digital lounge, editing studios, meeting rooms, and a cáfe.
